Early in her medical career, Dr. Ahmed recognized obesity as one of the most significant threats to healthcare, leading to complex and dangerous medical conditions. She saw the gap in knowledge about obesity, the prevalent biases against individuals with obesity, and the challenge of managing this condition effectively. Through patient encounters, she realized that while medications may help, they don’t always deliver lasting results and patients are often hesitant about long-term reliance on medication. Understanding the limitations of the current healthcare system, particularly with short physician visits, Dr. Ahmed knew that neither patients nor community physicians could adequately manage obesity. She envisioned a comprehensive program that combines medical expertise with lifestyle interventions for sustainable, long-term results. Today, Metamed is rapidly becoming a leading weight management and obesity clinic in Canada, focused on expanding its services nationwide through both virtual and in-clinic care.
