NC Tractor Services Inc. (NC Tractor) was a company where a transgender man, Denny, was employed as a truck driver in 2018. During his employment, Denny faced harassment and discrimination. The owner of NC Tractor and another employee repeatedly misgendered and deadnamed Denny, despite his requests to be addressed by his chosen name and masculine pronouns. The Canadian Human Rights Tribunal (CHRT) ruled that these actions, along with intrusive questions about Denny's transgender status, constituted discriminatory harassment based on gender identity or expression, violating the Canadian Human Rights Act (CHRA). NC Tractor was held liable for the discriminatory actions due to its failure to meet the conditions outlined in the CHRA. The tribunal awarded Denny $18,000 for pain and suffering.
