Ishkōdé Records is a new Indigenous and women-owned label created to foster and amplify Indigenous voices. Ishkōdé Records arrives to amplify and advocate for Indigenous artists, songs and stories in the commercial music landscape. Led by artists, organizers and activists Anishinaabekwe Shoshona Kish and solo artist Métis Amanda Rheaume. Custodians of song and story, Ishkōdé Records was launched on June 24, 2021. Ishkode Records celebrates Indigenous narrative storytelling through music as a means of self-determination. Ishkōdé Records’ guiding principle is “Songs for the Eighth Fire,” which refers to the Anishinaabe’s Seven Fires prophecy, a time when Indigenous peoples and settler communities together build the eighth and final fire of justice and harmony. The word Ishkōdé means fire in Anishinaabemowin. Universal Music Canada is Ishkode Records distribution partner.
