CannTrust Holdings Inc. (formerly known as Phoena Holdings Inc.) is a Canadian company that produced and distributed medical and recreational cannabis. Incorporated in 2015 and based in Vaughan, Canada, CannTrust sold dried cannabis and cannabis extracts. The company was involved in controversies leading to charges and bankruptcy protection. CannTrust entered bankruptcy protection in March 2020, emerging from it and rebranding to Phoena Holdings. In April 2023, Phoena Holdings entered creditor protection again and has been granted permission to wind down. In the past, CannTrust's products were used by 68,000 registered patients and prescribed by more than 2,500 physicians. The company faced legal issues and regulatory sanctions in 2019, and the suspension of sales. Settlement proceedings for investors were conducted and included actions in Canada and the United States.
